The haunting and nearly poetic introduction by artist and naturalist, H. Albert Hochbaum, with its depth of feeling and profound understanding of these beautiful creatures, sets the stage for what follows, the wonderful collection of breathtaking images from world-class wildlife photographers.
Organized by seasons, the dozens of gorgeous full-color photos are preceded by informative and well written text, which traces the lives of the waterfowl it covers through the course of a year, from courtship and nesting, to migration and wintering.
The many species of ducks, geese, and swans are shown on land, on the water, and in flight, and the photographs are stunning, from the pair of Canada geese in flawlessly synchronized flight, to the day-old wood ducks peering out of a hollow tree, and the yearling tundra swan spreading his wings on a Maryland river.
The photographers have more than captured the grace and agility of these truly “Magnificent Voyagers;” they have captured their spirit. The pages really come alive. A wonderful addition to any conservationist’s library, and a “must-have” for a waterfowl collection.
