Abstract:

"In the present book I have endeavored to cover some of the less-known explorations, referring only briefly to those which are more generally known-e.g., Polar explorations, discoveries in Egypt, etc. Aside from these, there are many others of extraordinary interest. Who, for example, first explored the interior of Greenland, Arabia, Persia, Tibet, New Guinea, the Libyan desert, Australia, Central Asia? Has the summit of Mount Everest ever been reached? Who first deciphered the wedge-shaped writing of the ancient Assyrians and Babylonians? These are Some of the topics covered in the present book. I trust it may prove a useful addition to those already published in this series, dealing with exploration. H. C."--Introductory on page [3].
