Description:
Fearful Symmetries is very similar in instrumentation to the ensemble for Adams's ballet Nixon in China, with the addition of a keyboard sampler playing sampled percussion sounds, two horns and a bassoon. According to the composer, the music is closely allied with pop and Minimalist rock, and the timbre "mixes the weight and bravura of a big band with the glittering, synthetic sheen of techno pop (samples and synthesizer) and the facility and finesse of a symphony orchestra."
The list below includes a score and recordings of Fearful Symmetries, as well as other examples of Adams's work.
